Matthew 16 | Beth Immanuel Messianic Synagogue

Matthew 16

Open the Gates

The first commandment at Mount Sinai was "I am the LORD your God who took you out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery" (Exodus 20:2). Why did God introduce himself this way instead of as the God "who Created of the Universe"? In this lecture we will explore the meaning of implications of faith (emunah) as the foundation of our life's journey to the Kingdom.

The Key of David

This class from Isaiah in the New Tetament takes you through Hezekiah's tunnel back to the days of Isaiah to discover the meaning behing the keys to the kingdom of heaven that Yeshua entrusts into the hands of his disciples. Download the PDF of the original handout below.

Feeding the Multitude

How did feeding a multitude with five loaves and two fish meet important Jewish messianic expectations, making it a perfect sign of Messiah? Learn how this event dramatized the Psalm the sages refer to as "the Messiah chapter" and discover the "two fish" hiding in plain sight in the Torah.

Bread of Immortality

It's common in the Messianic Jewish movement to state that the leaven which must be cast out at Passover symbolizes sin, but a closer look at the New Testament indicates a different symbolism at work. This teaching considers the spiritual significance of chametz (leaven) and matzah (unleavened bread) in connection with the festival of Passover.

Sign of Jonah

Yeshua told his generation that no sign would be given it except "the sign of Jonah." What was the sign of Jonah? Does the sign of Jonah prove that Yeshua was in the grave for three days and three nights? If Yeshua was in the grave three days and three nights, how could he have died on a Friday and been raised on a Sunday? Does Matthew 12:40 imply that Jesus did not die on a Friday? On what day of the week did Jesus die?

The Sign of Jonah

Does Matthew 12:40 imply that Jesus did not die on a Friday? On what day of the week did Jesus die?

Key of David

Our Master Yeshua possesses the mysterious key of David, but what does the key of David unlock? This teaching about the message to the assembly at Philadelphia opens new doors of understanding and includes a glimpse of the prophetic new name for the city of Jerusalem and a new name for Messiah.

The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens. (Revelation 3:7)

The Keys of Death and Sheol

In the first chapter of the book of Revelation, the risen Yeshua appears and declares that he holds in his hand "the keys to death and Hades." What are these keys and from where did he acquire them? What do they unlock?

This teaching, presented on Erev Rosh HaShanah 5776, discusses the resurrection of the dead in relationship to the shofar of Rosh Hashanah.
