Hebrews 11 | Beth Immanuel Messianic Synagogue

Hebrews 11

Open the Gates

The first commandment at Mount Sinai was "I am the LORD your God who took you out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery" (Exodus 20:2). Why did God introduce himself this way instead of as the God "who Created of the Universe"? In this lecture we will explore the meaning of implications of faith (emunah) as the foundation of our life's journey to the Kingdom.

Seeing Him Who is Unseen

God is invisible. Human beings are not. But the person of faith chooses the fear of the invisible over the fear of the visible. The story of the birth of Moses, the slaying of the Egyptian, and his flight from Pharaoh told from three perspectives: Exodus 2, Acts 7, Hebrews 11.

The Book of Faith and Hope

Biblical faith is a life of trust, belief, confidence, optimism, and certainty in God’s goodness. It accepts that the otherwise unseen and unknown things revealed by God’s prophets, by His Son, and by the apostles are all true and certain.

Vision of the Kingdom

The Bible says, "Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint." But what is the vision? Here's a talk on the vision behind Messianic Judaism for All Nations and how it differs from other forms of Judaism and Christianity. This teaching presents "the big picture" in the context of a discussion on Jacob's blessings over his sons at the end of the book of Genesis.

Exile Yourself to a Place of Torah

Beth Immanuel reveals the Come Home to Hudson campaign, the first of three aggressive campaigns for the new year 5776.

The first campaign invites believers from outside of the local area to pray about relocating to Hudson, WI in order to be part of a Messianic Jewish community and contribute to the work of the kingdom within the congregation of Beth Immanuel.

Exile yourself to a place of Torah, and do not assume that it will come after you, for it is your companions who will cause it to remain with you. (m.Avot 4:18)

Outside the Camp

Our religion involves a lot of ritual foods, including the ceremony that the Church refers to as the Eucharist, but the writer of the book of Hebrews warns his readers to steer away from sacramental interpretations of ceremonial foods. This discussion of Hebrews 13:9-14 brings the central conflict behind the epistle into sharp focus.

A Great Cloud of Witnesses

The Bible says we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Are the biblical saints of old watching us live our lives like characters in a bad reality TV show?

The writer of the book of Hebrews refers to the biblical saints as a great cloud of witnesses. What does that term imply?

Faith toward God

The second elementary teaching of the Messiah in Hebrews 6:12 is called faith toward God, but how does “faith towards God” function as a distinctive, unique, hallmark of first century Messianic Judaism? All sects of Judaism believed in God. Even the Sadducees believed in God. Find out how Yeshua transformed the faith of his followers, and get a fresh handle on what it means to believe in Jesus and to be born again.
