Tishrei 5779
May you finish with a good inscription for a sweet new year 5779!
Rosh Hashanah
Beth Immanuel celebrated Rosh Hashanah with shofar blasts and prayers for a sweet new year as the biblical year 5779 commences. Now we look ahead to Yom Kippur and the joyous festival of Sukkot. Our Holiday service times are available in the form of a downloadable PDF of our Fall Festival Schedule. Visit the Fall Festivals page for an overview and Messianic teachings about the festivals. Watch the website and our Facebook page for announcements about specific, upcoming events.
Yom Kippur
Yom Kippur begins Tuesday evening, Sep 18 and concludes Wednesday evening Sep 19. For a list of our Yom Kippur services, see the festival schedule. Join us for Yom Kippur teaching and prayers and then break your fast with our first annual Yom Kippur Break-Fast Breakfast on Wednesday night.
Sukkot
Sukkot begins the evening of Sunday Sep 23. Services will be conducted daily. Download the festival schedule for service times.
Sukkah City
We are opening our parking lot up for Sukkah City again this Sukkot, Sep 23-Oct 2 and you are invited. We want to squeeze in as many Sukkah’s as we can and set a new Hudson record. Come join the fun. Put up your Sukkah and become a temporary resident of beautiful, historic Hudson, WI. We’ll have synagogue services every day of the festival, lots of fun including a Sukkah contest, a Youth and Young Adults Pizza in the Hut night, a Torah Clubhouse Sukkah, lots of lulav waving, and on Hoshana Rabbah, we’ll have a cookout, a carnival, and a Facebook Live broadcast from Sukkah City.
Hoshana Rabbah
Early on Sunday Sep 30, we will be circling the bimah with lulavs, beating the floor with willows, and praying for rains to bring an end to Israel’s six-year drought. Our annual Hoshana Rabba service begins at 7:00 AM.
At 11:00 AM, we’ll be serving up hamburgers and hot dogs for a Beth Immanuel Youth and Young Adult fundraiser. If the weather is nice, we’ll also have a carnival in Sukkah City with live music, a drum jam, face painting, concessions, children’s games, and a bouncy house.
Dipping Disciples in the Saint Croix River
Last month, two weeks before the holidays began, we had the privilege of initiating six new students into Yeshua’s school of disciples through the ritual of immersion in the authority of our Master’s name. The immersions were followed by prayers of investiture from the elders and a community meal to celebrate the glad occasion.
The Wedding Season
Love is in the air at Beth Immanuel. We celebrated one wedding a week before Rosh Hashanah, and we have two more to celebrate after Sukkot concludes. May God bless us with many more.
Beth Immanuel Torah School
Beth Immanuel Torah School (BITS) starts Oct 21. To enroll your kids in BITS, fill out the enrollment form and make the tuition payment online.
- Kitah Aleph: Ages 3-5
- Kitah Bet: Ages 6-8
- Kitah Gimel: Ages 9-11
Tuition this year will be $40 per student.
(Note that the tuition DOES NOT include any levels of Aleph Champ or Hebrew Champ. Extra fees and price of materials apply to those programs.)
The End of Oneg
After serving approximately 1000 Shabbat and holiday community meals over the last sixteen years, we are bringing an end to the community “Oneg” meal. The growth of Beth Immanuel has made it increasingly difficult to facilitate the weekly banquet. Beginning on Shabbat Bereishit (Oct 6), we will no longer serve meals for the community on Saturday afternoons. Instead, we will conduct a brief Kiddush Rabbah with a small snack. After that, some light fare will be available for visitors and members from out of town. Seudah Shlishit (Third Meal) will continue as normal.
Sparks of Messiah
The teachers from our Beth Immanuel Torah School are launching an online version for distance learning. Sparks of Messiah Online Torah School is an online Torah school for Messianic Jews and Gentiles. Leveraging the power of technology and the latest teaching strategies, the school provides a quality Torah education that will nurture and grow the spark of discipleship in every young follower of Yeshua. Learn more about this exciting new venture at www.sparksofmessiah.com Help get this new venture going by spreading the word to Messianic families with children.
