Beth Immanuel Newsletter Elul 5777
Shalom from Beth Immanuel,
The two days of Rosh Chodesh Elul begins Monday night, Aug 21 and concludes at sunset Wednesday August 23. From Rosh Chodesh Elul until Yom Kippur, we concentrate on repentance, charity, and prayer in anticipation of the coming judgment. On Elul 1 (August 22), Beth Immanuel will hold a 7:00 AM Rosh Chodesh morning service featuring the blowing of the shofar as a reminder of the impending holidays and the call to repentance.
New Congregational Elder
The Elders of Beth Immanuel welcomed Aaron Eby to the leadership team on Shabbat Pinchas last month. Aaron works and writes for First Fruits of Zion, he serves as the director of Vine of David, and he is responsible for the translation of the Vine of David Siddur. Aaron and his wife Rachel are among the founding members of our community. We are glad to have them both in leadership.
BI Audio Back Online
After completing 41 teachings through the whole book of Revelation, we took a hiatus from posting new audio teachings during the busy summer months. We are back to posting fresh audio teachings every week. Subscribe to Beth Immanuel audio as a podcast or follow our Facebook page or Twitter feed for new audio. Please click "like" and share our posts with your friends.
Beth Immanuel Facebook Groups
Here’s a great new way to connect with Beth Immanuelites and virtual congregants. We’ve started a Beth Immanuel and Friends Facebook Group. The purpose of the group is for members and friends of Beth Immanuel to communicate. This includes people who regularly attend Beth Immanuel, people who can only visit once in a while, as well as our virtual community across the globe. The topics for the group are pretty wide open. Send greetings, ask Bible questions, coordinate events, share photos, or whatever you like. We also have a Come Home to Hudson Facebook Group for those who are considering moving to Hudson to join Beth Immanuel.
Toby Janicki’s Book on Didache Released
Toby Janicki of First Fruits of Zion celebrated the release of his monumental commentary on the Didache, The Way of Life, at last year’s annual Shavuot conference here at Beth Immanuel. Click here to read a recent review on the book. Janicki and his family came home to Hudson in May of 2016, and they have been active in leading events for Beth Immanuel youth and young events. Toby is also the Director of the 12-21 Messianic Youth Initiative.
Erev Shabbat Immersion Meal
Friday, August 25, Beth Immanuel welcomes new disciples by immersion with a special ceremony at Minchah (6:00 PM), and a special Erev Shabbat meal at 7:30 PM. The meal is free and open to the community, but you must RSVP by August 20. Please use this form to RSVP.
Daily Messianic Study App
To help encourage the habit of daily study, bethimmanuel.org offers you an online study guide with readings from the weekly Torah portion, the daily Psalms, and one chapter from the Gospels. The Torah portion divides into seven readings (corresponding to the seven Shabbat aliyot). By reading one section a day, you will finish the whole Torah portion each week. By reading the daily Psalms, you will complete the whole book of Psalms once a month. You can read the Torah Portion and Psalms in English or Hebrew. By reading the daily chapter from the Gospels, you will complete all four Gospels four times a year. This new web-based app functions on your desktop computer or handheld devices. Try it by visiting bethimmanuel.org/daily.
