Number 24 in the series Holy Epistle to the Hebrews

The Evangelical gospel asks, "Are you certain you are going to go to heaven when you die?" The Christian objective seems to be to secure a place in heaven, but the Bible says very little about heaven. Find out why most passages about heaven are actually not about heaven at all in this installment on the basic teachings of the Messiah from Hebrews 6.

Number 45 in the series Holy Epistle to the Hebrews

Our religion involves a lot of ritual foods, including the ceremony that the Church refers to as the Eucharist, but the writer of the book of Hebrews warns his readers to steer away from sacramental interpretations of ceremonial foods. This discussion of Hebrews 13:9-14 brings the central conflict behind the epistle into sharp focus.

Number 17 in the series Galatians

How long were the children of Israel in Egypt? Was it 430years? If so, how do we account for 430 years over only three generations? In Galatians 3, Paul employs a rabbinic tradition about the duration of Israel's sojourn in Egypt, interprets the "seed of Abraham" as a reference to Messiah, and compares the Torah to a competing inheritance document.

Number 17 in the series Apocalypse of John

The plagues on Egypt foreshadow a future coming time of tribulation when God will judge the whole earth, as he once judged Egypt. This time, judgment comes on all the nations, as God redeems his people from the nations. Just as the redemption from Egypt began with plagues, judgments, signs and wonders on the earth, likewise, the final redemption will be prefaced by the same types of omens, calamities, and judgments, which Christians refer to as “the tribulation” and Jews refer to as the “Birth Pains of Messiah,” leading up to the conflict of Armageddon, the great war of Gog and Magog.

If the road to Gehenna is paved with good intentions, the road to Olam Haba is paved with good habits. At Beth Immanuel, we are bringing daily prayer and study, daily acts of charity, and regular attendance at the house of study into the daily routine. This teaching from Parashat Shoftim derives the obligation of daily Torah study from the laws of the king in Deuteronomy 17.

Number 34 in the series Holy Epistle to the Hebrews

Bible teachers often use Hebrews 9 as proof that the disciples of Yeshua abandoned the Old Testament rituals of Temple worship and sacrifices as vestiges of an old covenant that had been replaced by a new covenant. A closer look reveals an entirely different message. Hebrews 9 uses the layout of the Temple to present  a mystical illustration of the passage from this world to the World to Come.

What does the normal disciple of Messiah look like? Here's a challenging teaching on the difference between the average disciple of Yeshua and the normal disciple of Yeshua.

What does the normal disciples of Messiah like? He looks like Messiah. He looks like the Sermon on the Mount. He looks like the new life, the transformed life, the quickened life. That transformation, that new life that dwells within him, impacts everything he does, everything he says, everything he is, thought, speech, and action. The branches of his life are weighted down with the ripe fruit of the spirit.

This teaching is part two of "The Quick and the Dead."

This teaching also contains discussion on the Noachide laws and proselytes to set the stage for the ensuing discussions in the book of Romans.

Number 7 in the series Galatians

For the last eighteen hundred years, the church has triumphantly declared that the gospel has cancelled the Torah and that Gentile Christians have replaced the Jewish people. Those dogmas stem from a failture to understand the distinction between Peter's apostleship and Paul's apostleship. As the apostles endorse Paul and send him out as the "apostle to the Gentiles," they do so with one caveat: "Remember the poor ones!" Find out the surprising meaning behind that single instruction.
