More about Death of the Messiah

If the wages of sin are death, that means that death pays for sins. But what if the person who dies is sinless? This teaching, part two of a two-part discussion, presents the material from the article titled “The Suffering Tzadik: How Does the Death of the Messiah Bring Atonement?” in Messiah Journal 107 by D. T. Lancaster and Toby Janicki.

How does the death of Yeshua atone for sins? The New Testament assures us that it does without explaining how. This teaching, part one of a two-part discussion, presents the material from the article titled “The Suffering Tzadik: How Does the Death of the Messiah Bring Atonement?” in Messiah Journal 107 by D. T. Lancaster and Toby Janicki.

Yeshua said, "Destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up again." This teaching goes deep into the meaning behind those words to reveal unmistakable correlations between Yeshua's death and resurrection and the Temple's destruction and ultimate restoration. Part two of the two-part teaching titled "Christmas in July."

If Yeshua came to die for our sins, then why did he pray that the cup of suffering might be taken away from him? This teaching on Parashat Ki Tavo's curses and blessings reaches into the kingdom to obtain some help for our physical condition in the world today.

What does it mean that Messiah has become a curse? Paul says, "Messiah redeemed us from the curse of the Torah by becoming a curse for us" (Galatians 3:13). Paul reinvents a popular anti-Yeshua taunt derived from Deuteronomy 21:22-23 to argue that the Messiah's suffering and death releases those who rely upon him from the cruse of the Torah.

Was Jesus crucified for being an anti-Roman zealot who was agitating against Rome? Does the Torah provide an avenue of personal salvation, thereby rendering the atonement of Jesus unnecessary? This anti-climactic lesson concludes our study of Asher Norman's book, Twenty-Six Reasons Jews Don't Believe in Jesus by briefly considering the closing arguments of reasons number twenty-five and twenty-six, including another tedious tour of duty through the wild-eyed claims of junk scholars.

What does the death of the Messiah mean to you? What does it accomplish for us? This teaching takes a serious look into the meaning of Passover and being born again through Yeshua.

Yeshua told his generation that no sign would be given it except "the sign of Jonah." What was the sign of Jonah? Does the sign of Jonah prove that Yeshua was in the grave for three days and three nights? If Yeshua was in the grave three days and three nights, how could he have died on a Friday and been raised on a Sunday? Does Matthew 12:40 imply that Jesus did not die on a Friday? On what day of the week did Jesus die?

Does Matthew 12:40 imply that Jesus did not die on a Friday? On what day of the week did Jesus die?
